V-RINGS

V-rings (V-ring seals) are elastomeric sealing elements for shafts, featuring an angled sealing lip that bears axially against a flat seating surface (usually the end face of a bearing housing or flange). The V-ring is fitted onto the shaft and rotates with it; the flexible sealing lip creates a dynamic barrier against dust, water and coarse contaminants.

Application

  • Secondary protection of bearings — against dust, water and other external contaminants
  • Protection of labyrinth seals in agricultural and construction machinery
  • Non-contact seals where conventional oil seals cannot be used
  • Pre-sealing of drive shafts in gearboxes and engines

Characteristics

The V-ring is fitted to the shaft (it rotates with the shaft), whilst a conventional lip seal is fitted into a seat (it remains stationary). This design ensures:

  • No shaft wear — the V-ring rotates with the shaft, so there is no friction
  • Low operating temperature — minimal friction = minimal heat build-up
  • Easy installation — no need for precise fitting into the seat
  • Tolerant of axial shaft movement

Types

VA, VS, VL and VE profiles depending on the lip angle and application. We supply these as standard in NBR (up to 100 °C) and FPM (up to 200 °C). FDA-approved silicone for food contact.
