O-rings

O-rings are the most widely used static and dynamic seals with a circular cross-section. They form an elastic barrier against the leakage of liquids and gases in fittings, cylinders, valves, pumps, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems. We offer over 6,000 sizes in various materials.

Where O-rings are used

Hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, fittings, reducers, hose ends, shaft and piston seals, plumbing, sanitary and food processing equipment, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and the automotive sector (fuel injection, air conditioning, brakes).

Materials in our range

  • NBR (nitrile) — universal, oils and fuels, -30 to +100 °C
  • FPM / Viton — chemical resistance, -20 to +200 °C, aggressive media
  • EPDM — water, steam, brake fluids, ozone
  • MVQ (silicone) — extreme temperatures, foodstuffs, FDA
  • PTFE — chemical aggressiveness, highest temperatures
  • FFKM (Kalrez) — most demanding chemical applications
  • HNBR, PU, NBR-white, FPM-green — special applications

How to select an O-ring

An O-ring is defined by two dimensions: internal diameter (ID, mm) × cross-sectional thickness (CS, mm). Standard series: AS568 (inch), DIN 3771 (metric), NORDM. Select the material according to the medium (chemical compatibility), operating temperature and pressure. For dynamic seals, hardness (70–90 Shore A) and the surface finish of the contact surfaces are also important.

Sealing gap and back-up rings

Under pressure load, the O-ring is pushed towards the opposite side of the groove. To prevent it from being extruded into the sealing gap and destroyed, choose the largest possible cross-section for the application, a harder material at higher pressures (80–90 Shore A), or add a back-up ring — a flat PTFE ring that bridges the gap. The rule: the higher the pressure and the wider the gap, the harder the material or the back-up ring required. The manufacturing tolerances of O-rings are defined by the ČSN ISO 3601 standard.
