O-rings are precision-moulded circular sealing elements. O-rings are best suited to static applications; for dynamic applications, certain restrictions apply which must be observed.

The groove size, and consequently the sealing pressure, depends on whether the O-ring is used in hydraulic or pneumatic systems. When selecting the groove width, care must be taken to ensure that it is wider than the deformed O-ring.
