X-rings are circular, four-lipped sealing elements. They are used in a wide range of applications, but most commonly as sliding seals, e.g. for piston rods, cylinders, etc. Unlike O-rings, they do not tend to twist in the groove during sliding motion. Thanks to their shape, they can be used in grooves with a square cross-section.

To prevent damage to the X-ring, it is not recommended to install it over edges or protrusions. The elastomers from which X-rings are manufactured can adapt to irregular surfaces under pressure; however, surface defects on the sealing surfaces, such as scratches, dents, spiral grooves, etc., are still unacceptable.
